Old Nicosia, Cyprus
The concept of this project began in designing 3 ‘built forms’ that when inserted into the fabric of ‘old nicosia’ seek to trigger a revitalization of their surrounding areas. The research continued into investigating what types of ‘decay’ (both architectural & urban) is taking place in 3 specific locations on the island of Cyprus; be it due to political, social, geological, cultural or psychological reasons. I began investigating the causes and seek to
propose solutions. These will take the forms of ‘inserts’. The ‘inserts’ are designed around the notions of the meaning of sustainability (this is a sub-category of the project; beginning to define & understand the meaning of sustainability itself) be it
aesthetic,environmental, economic,or personal. The final phase is then ‘revive’.
