The square & surrounding area is conceived as a conductor of energy within a historical setting; its functions and elements transmit this energy to the rest of the urban environment and therefore enhance the atmosphere of nicosia as a whole. The new land & street scapes are generated from both the form & concept of the walled city while simultaneously addressing contemporary issues. The grid is created from the orientation of the venetian walls and creates a visual axis to the ‘new city center’. Indigenous herbs, medicinal plants, and orchards (olive & citrus) are reinserted
as a central figure in the urban landscape. The project links the street level to the moat through a series of interactive ramps & water features. Multiple-use spaces are
created in varying scales to serve the ever changing needs of both inhabitants & visitors.
